Juneteenth: The Journey to Freedom

Houstonians are invited to a special evening commemorating of Juneteenth featuring performances by nationally recognized artists from the community, along with expressive visuals, educational narrations, passionate live music, and extraordinary dance performances.  Comprised of five educational acts, together they will tell the story of African Americans and the pivotal moments before and after 1865, and the significance of the proclamation of Juneteenth.

 

The event takes place June 19, 2022 with the pre-show start at 8:00 p.m. and the program starting at 8:30 p.m. at Miller Outdoor Theater and is free of charge. The event is presented in partnership with Miller Outdoor Theatre, Miller Theatre Advisory Board, Houston First, KTSU 90.9 FM, Wells Fargo and City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, with additional support from AARP and Reliant Energy Services.

 The event will recognize late State Representative, “Mr. Juneteenth”, Al Edwards and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee for their endless dedication and perseverance in advocating for Juneteenth and the African American community.
